Very dark read, if you have triggers please do not read this book. Pearl is not treated well in a lot of ways. Pearl has been kidnapped, kidnapped from the man who bought her at auction. One man so brutal nobody should have survived physically and certainly not emotionally but, Pearl is as strong as they are made,which is why Crow cannot get enough of her. Originally, she was taken from Bones as revenge but, Crow decided he couldn't hurt her much less kill her. His brother Cain did not feel that way, in fact when Bones put a price of $40 million for her return Cain was ready but, still Crow refused. Cain broke into Crow's home, got a hold of Pearl and beat her so brutally she almost dies. Now skip through, so not to ruin the book. Someone broke into her bedroom at Crow's took her, they were taking her back to Bone's for $10 million but, she fought like hell. Now what happens? No idea but, I am moving on to the third book to find out. This series is not even remotely predictable, it keeps you reading and almost unable to put it down. Will Crow go after Pearl? Will Bone's go after Pearl? Will Pearl be able to truly leave Crow? She is in love with him, he broke her by denying being in love with her; can she really walk? I am certainly going to continue on. It is an excellent read. It is hot sexy, dramatic, and dark. If not triggers I highly recommend.Product details

Beware, Possible Spoilers Ahead!

4/5 Stars. I can't tell if I liked this one more or the first one. The first one had more action than this one. Which I think does make it better. PS waited until like the last minute for any kind of action and left off with a cliff hanger.
I really enjoyed this book. It had the right amount of steam and just enough pain. I love it when dark romance focuses on just the pain. We like the lovey-dovey parts too!

Buttons & Hate was mostly about Pearl and Crow finding their love together. Even though Crow swears up and down that he doesn't love her. Their relationship really blossoms in this book. They go from master and slave to two people who can't stand to be without each other.
I just wish PS gave us more action instead of giving us more reasons to hate Cane. I wanted more fights and more killing. I wish their revenge started earlier. I just really hope the PS executes everything really well in the next book.

I don't think I could love Crow more than I do. I feel for him deeply. He's so scared to love and it hurts my heart. He's so strong and he doesn't even realize it. I can't even begin to believe that he doesn't think he's in love with Button. I just can't wait for the moment he pours his heart out to her.
Button is just getting better. She's grown to love Crow and will do anything to try and stay with him. That is, until he doesn't reciprocate her feelings towards him. She learns to protect her heart. And she becomes pretty bad ass. I can't wait to see what she does to Bones.
Writing Style ☆☆☆☆
I absolutely love the two perspectives. I don't know what I would do if I didn't know what was going through both of their heads. PS's writing is so easy to read and you'll be so absorbed in that you won't want to put it down.
WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT 5 STARS IF IT HAD REAL PAGE NUMBERS.
This is the 2nd book in a trilogy. It is imperative that you read Book #1, "Buttons & Lace" first. This is not a stand-alone.
But this is an amazing book. It is wonderfully written. The alternating narrative is very effective. HIGHLY recommend if you have the opportunity to read it with the audiobook that you do. The actual audio narrators truly make this book. It has a very strong heroine. Pearl has been put through the wringer and has not only survived, but thrived. She has the kind of backbone that I wish I had in everyday life. She might be pushed down, but she is not out. She does not let the rotten circumstances of her life define who she is right now, or who she wants to be. She uses it to build her life into what she knows she deserves. However, it's not just her tenacity that makes her a great character, but it's her heart. After everything she's experienced and is still enduring, she still has the ability to love and forgive. She gives forgiveness to someone that in reality probably didn't deserve it in a situation that the majority of people wouldn't be able too. And despite everything, she opens up to the possibility of love. And not in the "I'm stupidly forgetting what happen to me 5 pages ago so that there can be this awesome sex scene" sort of way. She is caution and weary about the people around her. She is very much aware of their flaws, but sees their potential as well. Pearl is not afraid to demand what she wants for herself, even if it comes at a cost. And the main male character, Crow, isn't easy on her. He is not an easy man. He's dark, intimidating, can be down right cruel. But there is something about Pearl and her resilience that is causing him to rethink his position on a lot of things in his life. Pearl also exhibits an empathy for those around her that, given her circumstances, no one would fault her if she just didn't give a damn. It really endears her and again makes her very real.
Wonderfully written. This storyline seems a little far fetched if you were just to pick up a review that said "sex traffic girl falls for one of the men in her chain of captures." I mean that makes it seem like just another run-of-the-mill Stockholm Syndrome story. This is not that at all. It's about a woman who refuses to be victim. It's about a man you decides to look at someone as a human and not just a means to an end. It's about overcoming sorrow and circumstances and doing something for someone to help them heal and become whole. And it is completely believable. I never once doubted that I could possibly run into Pearl in a cafe and after becoming friends, years down the road, have her tell me her story of survival and be able to believe every word of how she got where she was in her life. That's a testament to Ms. Sky and her ability to bring you in.
