Navigating the Maze of Energy Efficiency Projects eBook Jeff Julia

If you are responsible for a commercial building or you are in the business of helping those who are, I highly recommend this book. It will give you a leap forward in understanding how to approach these projects and overcome the pitfalls that have plagued so many before -- and not just as an academic exercise, but in the context of a real life business owner juggling many obligations.

This is a very easy read that, in a couple hours, can save you months of wasted time. The author writes about this potentially dry topic in the form of an engaging fictional story that follows a business owner through the course of his daily struggles to make his core business run smoothly, juggle family priorities and keep building issues from robbing him of time, customers, and money. Navigating the Maze of Energy Efficiency Projects eBook Jeff Julia Reviews

Simply put, a topic that can seem intimidating and complicating to most has been broken down and made clear in this great read. The author has done a phenomenal job making this an easy, yet informative read for both professionals of industry and consumers.

As a consulting engineer in the HVAC industry, who is constantly dealt the challenge of putting forth designs that need to adhere to the latest energy codes and standards put in place, year after year, this book is especially insightful.

"Navigating the Maze" is an excellent read that I will recommend to my colleagues, clients, property managers and business owners. Fantastic work by Mr. Julia.
With over 40 years in the energy contracting and energy controls business, I have seen too many failed attempts at de-mystifying what can be a very complex topic. Reading through the advance copy Jeff provided, the simple story-based approach provides a thorough, technically complete how-to manual for energy efficiency retrofits. This is not a book for energy engineers, it’s a quick read for anyone who has launched or is considering an energy project. There are many “gotchas” in this business, and you will avoid at least some of them by spending a few hours with this book.
As a building owner, upgrading your equipment to maximize energy efficiency isn't the first (or sexiest) thing that comes to mind as a way to cut costs. But these unnecessary energy costs add up quick. Worse, they become ingrained as a normal but highly inefficient cost of business. Navigating the Maze gives insight on many of the types of savings available. Follow along the energy-efficiency path of fictional restaurant owner Joe Stevenson as he agonizes over his next step. New rooftop units? Light Bulbs? Exhaust or freezer controls? Through his eyes, you may not learn all the answers, but you learn all the right questions to ask. From getting an energy audit, picking contractors and equipment, maximizing rebates and financing options, all the bases are covered. Fairly quick, easy and straight-forward read that could save you $$ long term. Good stuff
(I received a free review copy of Navigating the Maze)
Jeff Julia really nails it in this simple to read book about the sale of energy efficiency projects. I had the joy of working with Jeff so I have seen his expertise firsthand. It's amazing how many "no-brainer" projects get stalled. Now Jeff has pulls his knowledge together to make navigating the development and sales process to close more projects, faster.
This is a well-written and engaging book that will walk readers through the potential pitfalls and challenges of energy efficiency projects. The author shares important lessons from his years of experience developing, evaluating and improving lighting, HVAC, controls and building envelope projects. Far from being "no brainers" these projects all have potential problems and without proper guidance, a building owner or manager could end up losing valuable time and money.

By using a fictional narrative based on a composite of real people and projects, the author paints a clear picture if how these projects work in the real world. This makes it very easy and interesting to follow. The author also provides 6 key elements that every successful energy efficiency project needs to address. This is what makes this book a very valuable resource for anyone involved in this industry--a building owner contemplating a facility improvement investment or a implementer, service provider or contractor who would like to improve their process.

These comments are based on a complementary preview copy that I received.
When Jeff Julia asked me to read an advance copy of his book I immediately agreed. His passion for the work is readily apparent in his writing, and his grasp of the material comes through very clearly. This is an easy read, and neccesary for any business owner who owns real estate that was not built yesterday. What do I mean? My main take away energy efficiency is about reverse engineering future money-saving technology and tax rebates into a structure that was built with no possible foresight into the possibility. Frankly, I never realized how disjointed and disparate energy efficiency tactics might be for an older structure. Jeff brings it together.

This is a story. The writing brings you through what is a recognizable consultative relationship between a business owner and an expert. The business owner, as expected, is occupied with their business. The expert guides the business owner through a process that is almost artifically complicated. Reading this book will definitely prepare the reader for such an exchange. Highly recommended!
